Video of Man Entering Grave Before Twin Sister Is Buried Stirs Internet: "Culture" Updated

Monday, March 31, 2025 at 12:24 PM by  Susan Mwenesi reviewed by  Mercy Nyambura 4 min read A family in South Africa set tongues wagging after they showed a video of their son getting into a grave ahead of his twin sister's body to help in her transition to the afterlife He jumped into the grave and was followed by another man, and they stayed inside for some time, then left It was only then that the clergyman continued with the burial service, which had been halted for some time

Why did South African jump into the grave?

The clip of the burial taking place in South Africa showed a group of mourners huddled around a coffin ready for burial. At the head of the grave was a clergyman, clutching a bible. The deceased's brother then courageously jumped into the grave, followed by another man; it is unclear why they went into the grave. They later came out, and everybody looked satisfied with what had occurred.

Hausa Room, who shared the video, said that in some South African cultures, when a twin passes away, the surviving twin is expected to enter the grave before the deceased one is buried.

 The impact of Ramadhan today

Ramadhan has a significant impact today across various aspects of life, from social and economic changes to cultural and spiritual transformations. Here are some key areas where its influence is seen:

1. Spiritual & Religious Impact

  • Increased Worship: Muslims engage in more prayers, Quran recitation, and acts of worship. Mosques see higher attendance, especially for Tarawih prayers.

  • Charity & Giving: A rise in zakat (charitable giving) and donations helps the less fortunate, fostering a sense of community support.

  • Self-Discipline & Reflection: Many people use this time to develop good habits, practice patience, and seek spiritual growth.

2. Social & Cultural Impact

  • Family & Community Bonding: Families gather for Iftar (breaking fast) and Suhoor (pre-dawn meal), strengthening relationships.

  • Community Engagement: Many communal activities, such as shared meals and charitable events, bring people together.

  • Festive Atmosphere: Markets, streets, and homes are decorated, and special foods are prepared, making it a lively period.

3. Economic Impact

  • Tourism & Travel: Many people travel to visit family or perform Umrah in Mecca, boosting the travel industry.

4. Health & Lifestyle Impact

  • Dietary Changes: Many people shift their eating habits, consuming different foods and often experiencing changes in weight and digestion.

  • Health Benefits & Challenges: While fasting has potential health benefits like detoxification and improved metabolism, some struggle with dehydration or fatigue if not managed well.

  • Mental Well-being: The focus on mindfulness and reduced distractions helps many find inner peace and clarity.

5. Digital & Media Influence

  • Increase in Religious Content: Online platforms see a rise in faith-based content, including lectures, Quran recitations, and motivational talks.

Kenyan Newspapers Review: Moses Kuria to Skip Ruto’s Highly Publicized 5-Day Tour of Mt Kenya Region Monday

March 31, 2025 at 8:28 AM by  Amos Khaemba reviewed by  Mercy Nyambura 3 min read On Monday, March 31, national dailies widely reported on President William Ruto's planned tour of the Mt Kenya region.

1. The Standard

On Tuesday, April 1, President William Ruto is set to start his highly publicised development tour of the Mt. Kenya region. The paper reported that Ruto is returning to the Mt Kenya region without five of his key political pillars who contributed to his win in 2022. PAY ATTENTION: TUKO is in WhatsApp Channels now! Subscribe and read news in favourite messenger. They are former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, former Cabinet secretaries Moses Kuria, Justin Muturi, Mithika Linturi, and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro. Curiously, Kuria, despite serving as one of Ruto’s many advisors on the economy, will reportedly not accompany the Kenya Kwanza leader during his Mt Kenya tour.

Political analyst Charles Njoroge believes Ruto's ability to overcome political obstacles in Mt. Kenya without the support of five key figures will be a key test

“Most of them enjoy a huge influence and have a massive following, while Ruto’s remaining loyalists lack charisma,” Njoroge said.

2. Daily Nation

The publication reported on the government's ongoing efforts to retrieve the body of a Kenyan police officer killed in Haiti. The Multinational Security Support (MSS) has initiated talks with a Haitian gang that has detained the body of the Kenyan police officer. Negotiations are underway to have the gang release the body of Benedict Kuria Kabiru.

“Every effort is being made with the belief that the gang will make the best decision of releasing the body to MSS. Already, negotiations through a number of avenues have kicked off,” said a source.

Kabiru's body is believed to be held by the gang identified as Viv Ansanm (Living Together), which is led by Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier, a former Haitian police officer. 3. Taifa Leo

The publication reported on former chief justice David Maraga's reaction to claims of being state-sponsored ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking on Sunday, March 30, the former CJ expressed that he is the best candidate for the presidency in 2027. The former CJ added that he was still consulting over his State House bid, and he would soon tell Kenyans his presidential ambition.

"Just relax, in due course, you will know whether I am a state project. We are consulting with people. At the end of the day, it is the people's choice. If you ask me, I would say that I am the right one," Maraga said.

4. The Star

The paper reported on the alleged fraud case involving an online writer identified as Parmenas Kivinga Kisengese. Kisengese, who allegedly conned a US-based Kenyan woman of KSh 870,733, was charged with cheating under Section 315 of the Penal Code at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi on March 25.

Kisengese appeared before Magistrate Praxides Oduke, denied the charges and requested bail. According to the charge sheet, the alleged offence occurred between August 14 and August 18, 2023. The magistrate was told that with other suspects not before the court, Kisengese allegedly fraudulently obtained KSh 870,733 from Sandra Mercy Mwangangi.

"On various dates between August 14, 2023, and August 18, 2023, at an unknown location within Kenya, jointly with another person not present in court, by fraudulent means, obtained KSh 870,733 from Sandra Mercy Mwangangi, falsely pretending to offer online writing services, a fact he knew to be untrue," the charge sheet stated.

Lessons McCarthy gained from the two matches The South African international said that the recently concluded match under his leadership provided valuable lessons, and he is looking forward to making further improvements to the team. McCarthy shared that after three training sessions with the entire team, their playing style was clear. He believes that with further time, training, and scouting, the team can become very strong.

"Having only three training sessions with the entire team, we’ve already seen how they play, which says a lot. I believe everyone should take note of the team we’re building. With more time, more sessions, and more scouting, we’re going to build something really special,"

McCarthy said. With the World Cup qualifiers set to resume in September, the 47-year-old coach is now focusing on the CAF CHAN, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in August.

As per the CAF website, the coach mentioned he hasn’t been able to watch many local matches, as he was focused on World Cup qualifiers. However, he intends to visit different regions to scout players and hopes to set up small camps to start forming the team before August.

“I haven’t had the chance to watch many local games because I had to focus immediately on the World Cup qualifiers. I’ve had to rely heavily on the local coaches. But now, with time until August, I plan to travel around the country to see as many players as possible. I also hope we can organize small camps with selected players to start building the team early,” the coach said.
